Off-site Events

In addition to breakout sessions at the hotel, this year’s NTW offers a variety of off-site experiences:

Greater Wichita CVB

• Tuesday afternoon livestock handling demonstration at the Wichita Farm Show. (Limited to a maximum of 30 participants)
• Wednesday afternoon tour of the Wichita Deere training facility to learn about precision agriculture and ergonomics. Please note that this is a classroom-type training facility and not a manufacturing plant. (Limited to a maximum of 30 participants)
• Two separate Thursday tours – The buses will return to the hotel at midday allowing participants to attend either or both tours.
  • Morning tour of the AGCO Manufacturing in Hesston, Kansas is one of the world's oldest and largest manufacturers and distributors of agricultural equipment. AGCO brands include: AGCO, Massey Ferguson, Valtra, Challenger, Fendt, Gleaner, Hesston, TerraGator, Spra-Coupe, Sunflower, and Willmar. The Hesston, Kansas facility was acquired in 1991 from the Hesston Corporation, a leading maker of hay tools. The Hesston facility manufactures haying machines including mowers, rakes, and stackers, as well as harvesting machines.
  • Afternoon tour to the Elk River Wind Farm & 4L Ranch in Beaumont, Kansas is owned and managed by Pete Ferrell. This native tall-grass prairie ranch has been in his family since 1888. Recently the ranch leased some of the ranch land for the creation of a 100-generator wind farm. Mr. Ferrell's ranch incorporates custom cattle grazing, agri- and eco-tourism, hunting, and wind farming. He also uses some of the low-stress cattle handling techniques recommended by Temple Grandin who will present earlier in the conference. In addition to ranching, Ferrell is the executive coordinator of the Tallgrass Beef Company and secretary of the board for The Land Institute.
