SPOT, the Terminal Watchdog

Marian Hensler

Spot is the terminal watchdog. Driven by the configuration file, he is responsible for keeping terminals free for "appropriate" users, logging off idle terminals, logging off users who are logged in more than once, and users who have been logged on too long.

Most users will never meet Spot. His main purpose in life is to see that the limited number of terminals connected to the ECN are available to the maximum number of users. Someday when you are waiting and waiting to access a terminal, you will be grateful to Spot for keeping a sharp eye on terminal usage and helping to see that everyone gets a fair chance to use the system.

Type "help spot" to learn more about Spot.
