[previous article] [next article]As we have all experienced, software is dynamic. New and improved versions of software are constantly replacing older software. This is what is happening with the X Windowing System.
MIT and the X-Consortium have announced that the X Windowing System Version 10 will no longer be supported. In accordance with this, the ECN will also cease support of X10 and it will be removed from production on May 30, 1989.
The most current version of X windows, X11 Release 3, will be supported. Manuals for X11 Release 3 will be available for purchase from the Armory in February.
To aid the conversion, a program x10tox11 has been included in the X11 Release 3 distribution. This program allows X10 programs to run using the X11 server. This program is not perfect and is not supported. It is intended to aid in the transition from X10 to X11, not to replace the conversion process. Please don't wait until the last minute to begin conversion. Start early! Shop often!
