The ECN No Name Newsletter is no longer being published. This is an archived issue.
[previous article] [next article]Currently, ECN uses Control-] (character code 0X1D) as the attention code to return to the annex prompt from an active connection. More and more frequently, we are discovering conflicts where this character needs to be passed through to the attached systems (when running tn3270, for example).
In order to help those users that need to use Control-], we will be removing its special meaning to the Annex box sometime this summer. We will revert to standard Annex convention of using the "Break" key as the annex attention signal. Since the break is a line condition indicated by a long null signal and is not directly translated to any ASCII character, this will avoid problems with character pass-through conflicts.
If your terminal is unable to generate the break condition, you should set your Annex attention character manually before connecting to a host with rlogin or telnet with a command of the form:
"annex anxe2 port 22: stty attn ^]"
