E-Mail Delivery Host? Where Is Yours?

Stacey Clark

This summer various machines including AB, CB, PB, EI, EL are being decommissioned. If your mail goes to any of these machines, you need to move your mail host to another machine. To see where an account's mail host is, type "mailbox" when logged into any ECN machine, or type "mailbox -u login" to check from another account.

% mailbox
Mail for stacey being forwarded to stacey@cb.
To change my mail host from CB to CN, all I type is:
% mailbox cn
Forwarding stacey's mail to stacey@cn.
This won't take effect until tomorrow morning.

WARNING!! Once the machine is shut down, your mail will automatically be re-routed to another ECN machine as long as the person sending you mail does not specify the dead machine specifically. You should inform all your off-campus cohorts sending you e-mail that your ECN mail address is:

              Internet mylogin@ecn.purdue.edu
                               OR
          BITnet mylogin%ecn.purdue.edu@purccvm

When one of the above addressing protocols is used, the mail programs will look up your current mail site and send it to the correct destination, once it reaches ECN.
