The Community of Science Database homepage strives to optimize the presentation and accessibility of two main types of information as a service to its members:

research and development
and
research funding information

Purdue University recognizes how important this information is and has elected to purchase membership along with many other major universities and leading research and development corporations. Membership in this service offers organized research and development information and contacts, as well as, making funding opportunities more accessible.

The Community of Science Databases page is made up of three searchable databases:

Expertise Database
The Expertise Database consists of individual entries of information about specific experts in a wide variety of fields. The information can be quite extensive and covers aspects of the expert ranging from work history to current research interests. Honors, achievements, publications, and a direct contact are common content in these listings. Some entries even contain funding key words pertaining to that particular experts areas of research. Any combination of these keywords can be selected and automatically run as a query in the underlying funding database.

Placing Yourself In The Database
Members of participating institutions can add themselves to the expertise database quickly and easily through the web page. All that is needed is to fill out an online questionnaire form. When adding yourself to the database you will be issued a personal login and password for use if you wish to modify or update your entry in the future. After reading some simple instructions and submitting your entry, it is checked for authenticity, and then added to the database.

Inventions Database
The Inventions Database is comprised of a single entry for each invention. Provided in the entries is the name(s) of the inventor(s), the abstract for the invention, and a direct contact for more information about the invention.

Facilities Database
The Facilities Database is made up of information about research and development facilities. A contact is provided for each facility in addition to an extensive description of all pertinent aspects of the facility.

The databases can be searched as a whole or by individual institution. Each database has an individual search-form interface with six to nine appropriate fields, making the search very efficient and accurate. There are explicit searching instructions, if needed. The output is offered in your choice of list or table form.
