Submitting Your Site To Search Engines
Brad Fritz, Student Web Assistant

Has the number of visits to your web pages
been a little low lately?
If people who would like to see your site can't
find it; it might be the reason.
If that's the case,
it is probably time to register
your URL with some of the more popular search engines.
While it's possible to visit the search engines individually,
you can save time by using one of the many
free URL submission tools on the Web to add tour site.
Here's how to use Add Me to assist in registering your personal
site with 34 search engines, including AltaVista, Excite,
InfoSeek, Yahoo and others:
-
Prepare your site with the <META> tag.
This helps search engines index your pages properly and
provide meaningful descriptions of your pages in their
search results. <META> tag syntax information can be
found at:
http://www.eskimo.com/~bloo/html/tagpages/m/meta.htm
-
Point your favorite web browser to
http://www.addme.com .
-
Fill out and submit Add Me's Page/Listing Information
form. You should only need to fill out this form for
your site's home or top-level page. The individual search
engines will follow the links on that page to the
other pages in your site.
-
Next, you will be presented with a series of web pages
allowing you to selectively register your page with any
of the 34 search engines supported. Add Me will do its
best to fill in the individual search engines' URL
submission forms and then prompt for any additional
information required.
Over the course of the next few days, the search engines
to which you submitted your URL should visit and index
your site.
