Ten Electronic Journals Added To THOR+

The Purdue University Libraries announces the addition of 10 electronic journals to THOR+. The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, or SIAM, has recently made some of its journals available on the World Wide Web for the current year and most likely throughout 1998. Consequently, they have been added to our Electronic Journal page on THOR+ at http://thorplus.lib.purdue.edu/vlibrary/journals/index.html. The included journals are:

SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics
The Journal includes articles on mathematical methods and their relevance to physical, biological, medical and engineering sciences. Some topics of these articles are applications of probability theory and stochastic processes, linear and nonlinear wave propagation, and combustion and transport theory.

SIAM Journal on Computing
The Journal looks at the problems of computer science and the nonnumerical aspects of computing and discusses the application of mathematics on these dilemmas. Some included topics are artificial intelligence, cryptographic protocols, and the mathematical aspects of programming languages.

SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization
The Journal contains research articles on the mathematics and applications of control theory and on those parts of the optimization theory concerned with thedynamics of deterministic or stochastic systems in continuous or discrete time. Or the mathematics dealing with differential equations, dynamics, infinite-dimensional spaces, or fundamental issues in variational analysis and geometry.

SIAM Journal on Discrete Mathematics
The Journal includes a wide variety of topics ranging from pure and applied mathematics including combinatorics and graph theory to discrete optimization and operations research to theoretical computer science to coding and communication theory.

SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis
The Journal focuses on classical or modern analysis which has bearing on the natural sciences and engineering. There are two main categories into which these papers fall: articles analyzing interesting problems associated with realistic mathematical models for natural phenomena and articles contributing in a substantial way to the general, analytical information and techniques which are likely to bear upon such models.

SIAM Journal on Matrix Analysis and Applications
The Journal contains research articles on linear algebra with emphasis on applications and numerical procedures. Included are such areas as Markov chains, networks, signal processing, systems and control theory, mathematical programming, economic and biological modeling, and statistics and operations research.

SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis
The Journal contains research articles on the development and analysis of numerical methods including their convergence, stability, and error analysis as well as related results in functional analysis and approximation theory. Computational experiments and new types of numerical applications are also included.

SIAM Journal on Optimization
The Journal includes research and expository articles on the theory and practice of optimization, and papers that link optimization theory with computational practice and applications. Among the areas addressed are linear and quadratic programming; stochastic, combinatorial, and nonsmooth optimization; numerical optimization including optimization algorithms for parallel architectures, and applications in engineering, management, and the sciences.

SIAM Review
The Journal contains articles that are written for a wide scientific audience and that are potentially of interest to the entire SIAM membership. Articles include expository or survey papers focusing on important advances in applied or computational mathematics, or papers outlining the mathematical and computational challenges in scientific or engineering applications. Other features include essays, book reviews, classroom and industrial notes, and problems and solutions.

SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing
The Journal contains research articles on numerical methods and techniques for scientific computation. Papers address computational issues relevant to the solution of scientific or engineering problems, and should generally include computational results demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed techniques.

These journals all appear on http://thorplus.lib.purdue.edu/vlibrary/journals/index.html. They address the application and significance of mathematics to various fields of scientific study including computer, medical, biological, engineering, and natural sciences. Access to these full text journals is available from any computer in the .purdue.edu domain.
