After ten years of service, the time has come to retire
the last Gould computer in Engineering, EN.
Two new machines have been installed to replace EN.
SHAY, now available for use,
is a Sun Ultra with two 200MHz processors and 512MB of memory.
STACK, hopefully available in the late Spring,
is an HP K400 with four processors and 512MB of memory.
EN will be retired on June 2, 1997
The shutdown of EN will be completed in several steps,
designed to allow an easy migration to other machines.
- Accounts on the new Sun Ultra (SHAY):
All EN users will be given accounts and disk space on
SHAY. This has already been done for all ECE undergraduates
who had nonexpired EN accounts. Other accounts are
being added in large groups by classification. Anyone in
ECE may have an account on SHAY.
Documentation to assist users in the transition from
EN to SHAY will be available early February.
- Old Accounts Disabled:
On May 15, 1997,
accounts that exist on EN in the Spring semester will be disabled.
- Mailboxes Relocated:
On March 12th, 1997,
all mailboxes remaining on EN will be relocated to SHAY.
Users are encouraged to move their mailbox as soon as
possible after receiving their SHAY accounts.
- No New EN Accounts:
After December 31, 1996,
no new accounts will be created on EN.
All new accounts which would have gone onto EN
will be created on SHAY.
- EN Disk Quotas:
After January 3rd, 1997, quotas will not be increased on EN.
- HOME directories
On May 15, 1997,
all files remaining on EN will be moved to archive tapes.
Users not wishing for this to happen
must move their files from EN to SHAY or another machine
prior to this date.
If you would like assistance in migrating your work and files from EN to
SHAY or other ECN machines,
please send email to esite@ecn.purdue.edu
or speak to a consultant in MSEE 189.
