Engineering Library Subscribes to Two New Databases

Sheila Curl, Engineering Librarian

The Engineering Library is subscribing to two new engineering databases that are available via the Web: ILI's Standards and Metals databases. To use them point your browser to http://www.ili.co.uk/.

Industry standards are an important part of engineering documentation. The Engineering Library has a large collection of standards including ANSI, ASME, IEEE, ASTM, and SAE. Up to now, you had to know the number of the standard you wanted and use one of the paper reference tools or the CD-ROM index in the Engineering Library. Now students and faculty in the Schools of Engineering can search for this information from their office or lab.

ILI Standards

The ILI Standards database is the leading bibliographic standards database. It covers 350,000 worldwide standards. Coverage extends across the industrialized world. Information given includes the Number, Title, Version, Summary, International Equivalents, Table of Contents and more. Over 250 standards issuing authorities are covered.

You can locate standards using many different fields depending on the piece of information you have. You can search by Number, Title, Text, Publisher, Document Type, Equivalency or any combination of these.

ILI Metals

The ILI Metals database is the leading database on metals grades and properties, suppliers and metallurgical standards. It includes over 30,000 ferrous and non-ferrous metal grades giving the chemical composition, mechanical and physical properties, form, and heat treatment details. The database contains validated information taken from standard reference tools like the Metals Handbooks and the ASM Handbooks. There is a directory of suppliers with a listing of the products they supply. There are also 15,000 bibliographic records of metallurgical standards in which the grades are specified.

You can locate grades, standards or suppliers using many different fields depending on the piece of information you have. You can search by Designation, Grade Number, Form, Chemical Composition, Mechanical Properties, Supplier, Standard Number or any combination of these.
