[previous article] [next article]February 16th was Luann Evans' first day as Electrical and Computing Engineering's site specialist.
Luann's B.S. degree is in Music Education and School Library Services. How did she get from that to computers? Upon returning to school, after staying home with 4 children, Luann decided Computer Technology was the career path for her. She still loves teaching, but by using computers rather than music.
Luann returned to the workforce as a Computer Technician for NYNEX and the IBM Business Center. She left NYNEX after 2 years to lead a Sales Force Automation project for SYSCO Food Services of Indianapolis, a previous customer. This was a great project that put laptops in the hands of 80 salespeople spread over Indiana and Illinois, allowing the transmission of orders via modem to a UNIX box. After 3 years, this project was up and running smoothly and \fBLuann\fR was looking for new challenges. She moved from Indianapolis to West Lafayette to be employed at Great Lakes Chemical Corporation. In 1994, as Sr. PC Support Specialist, she attempted to bring them into the 1980's. Luann came to Purdue in 1996 as the Operations Manager for Krannert. She has managed a wonderful team of 5 full time staff and 20 students. She is looking forward to the challenges of ECE and to helping ECN grow. In her spare time, she is pursuing an MBA degree through the Krannert Executive Education program.
On the personal side, in addition to the 4 children, Luann has a cat, dog, 2 ferrets, 2 iguanas (the kids didn't tell her they would get to be 4 feet long), and 2 fish tanks.
