Lectures
There will be a one hour lecture given in MSEE 184, unless announced otherwise. Lectures will cover different aspects of mobile technology. You can find a tentative syllabus here . Attendance will be taken and will be used for grading. Students can miss at most two lectures with proper justification, more misses will be penalized. The lecture notes will be posted on the class web page after the lecture.
Assignments
Homework will be assigned on a weekly basis. These assignments will be on the same topic of that weeks lecture and they can be downloaded from class web page. Assignments will be due to the beginning of the next class. Late submissions will reduce your credit for that homework. For more details read homework guidelines.
Design Notebooks
Students have to keep design notebook for their projects. These notebooks will be checked during the semester and will be retained at the end of the semester for future reference. For the details of design notebook contents and format, read, "Design Notebook Guidelines".
Class Forms and Reports
Students will be required to fill out a number of forms and write reports . A list of these forms and reports and due dates are given in the syllabus and in the course calendar . Forms and guidelines can be downloaded from the class documents web site. These documents should be submitted in time. Some of these documents must be submitted to the class TAs and other must be submitted online.
There is one report that must be submitted each week: the "weekly report". Each student must submit online a weekly report specifying the tasks accomplished during that week and the plan for the following week. Each team must also submit a unique team weekly report. The due date for each report is the last day of the week, i.e. for week 1 you should submit a report before Sunday midnight of that week.
Online Reports and Forms:
Equipment checkout
Various equipment will be given to the students according to their projects. Students need to sign a loan form to check out ANY equipment. Students are expected to keep everything, including the packaging, software, documentation etc., they borrowed for this class. They will be collected at the end of the semester. Some of these equipments might have been used previous semesters, therefore check the contents and notify TAs if anything is missing or not working. For more details please read "Original Contents of Equipment".
Mobility Laboratory
It is located in MSEE 140 (Phone 49-41590). It provides students the necessary software and hardware resources for their projects. Keys of this lab will be given to each student and they will be collected right after the final presentations. Make sure you read the rules of the lab before you use it.
Programming
Programming for Pocket PCs will be required in most of the projects and for some of the homeworks. According to the needs of the projects, students are expected to have good programming skills in one of the following languages:
Following development environments will be provided in the Mobility Lab computers:
- Microsoft Visual Basic
- Embedded Visual C++
Lectures 1, 2 and 3 will cover programming languages and tools. However these lectures will be introductory and students will be expected to learn and practice more.
Grading
For grading components and details, please read Grading Scheme.
Faculty and TA may schedule a 15 minutes Individual Oral Exam with each student during finals week.
Documentation and Backup
Everything you have done during the semester should be properly backed up to the team's shay account. You should create a new folder under your home directory, named semester_year, eg. Spring_2005. This folder should contain following subdirectories:
|
|-> Reports (contains proposal report, progress report and final report)
|
|-> Presentations (contains midterm and final presentations)
|
|-> Software (contains all source code related to your project)
|
|-> PC_Backup (backup of your team PC at the mobility lab)
No one on the team will receive a final grade until your TA certifies that all the code associated with your team's project has been properly documented and backed up to the appropriate ECN server. This needs to be done before Friday of the final week.
