 return to main page

NOTE: DO NOT CONNECT the Jornada to the desktop computer until you have finished installing the drivers on your desktop PC. DO NOT INSERT the PC Card into the Jornada until ActiveSync has copied the files and drivers from your desktop PC to your Jornada. If you have not yet installed ActiveSync on your desktop computer, go to How to install Microsoft® ActiveSync®

  1. Upon inserting the ORiNOCO CD-ROM into your desktop computer, the "ORiNOCO Install Software Menu" will display. Select "View CD Contents" (If your CD-ROM does not start automatically displaying the setup screen, use the "my computer icon" to display the contents of your ORiNOCO CD-ROM).

  2. Browse to the CD-ROM folder F:\DRIVERS\Win_CE\HPC2000 where F:\ represents the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive and double-click the setup.exe file.

  3. When finished, remove the ORiNOCO CD-ROM from the CD-ROM drive and use the serial cable and/or docking cradle to connect the Jornada to your desktop computer.
  4. Once computers are connected, ActiveSync will start automatically and will copy the files and drivers to your Jornada.
  5. When finished, you may disconnect the Jornada from the desktop PC. Next, Insert the Card into the PC Card slot face up.
  6. On your Jornada, go to Start>Settings>Control Panel and verify that you have the new Wireless Network icon.
  7. Double-click the Wireless Network icon to Add/Edit the Configuration Profile and click on Edit Profile.
    • On the Basic Tab, on the "Network name" field, enter PAL in upper case.
    • On the Admin Tab, set the "Distance between Access Points" to Medium. Verify that the MAC Address is set to Default.
    • On the Advanced Tab: To extend the Jornada battery time, you may wish to set "Card Power Management" on.
      The normal behavior of the wireless interface power LED is to flicker while in power save mode. When power Management is enabled, the station's network interface will go to "sleep" mode to minimize power consumption. But if the network interface would not scan for beacons and multicast messages coming from Access Points, it might lose its connection to the network during power save mode, and risk to be disconnected by the network operating system. To stay connected, the network interface will "wake-up" at regular intervals to verify whether there is network traffic addressed to the wireless station.
      If you disable Power Management, the interface power LED will be continuously green again to indicate continuous power consumption.

  8. Download, install and run the client software.
