Connecting to the Purdue Air Link (PAL) Wireless Network


1- Card settings:

These settings can be entered when you are prompted for settings during device driver loading or you may access the settings dialog windows by selecting your wireless card properties

1. Set the Network name or ESSID to "PAL" in upper case.
2. Set the Operating mode to "Infrastructure".

To extend device battery time, you may wish to set "Card Power Management" on.

2- Connecting to the Purdue wireless network from a handheld PC or Pocket PC:

In order to connect to the Purdue wireless network, users must first download the client software for your device. Click on the links below to download the VPN client software.

- Users of Pocket PC 568 download Movian Pocket PC 2002

- Users of Pocket PC 548 download Movian Pocket PC 3.0

- Users of Handheld PC 720 download Movian HPC 2000

Note that to install the software on your device you need to have ActiveSync installed on your desktop PC or laptop. Download the software to your desktop PC, unzip the file and read the "Installation Instructions.txt" file.

If you need the software for another operating system (PalmOS, Windows, MAC, Linux) please go to http://www.itap.purdue.edu/airlink/.

Every time you want to connect to PAL, you must start the MovianVPN application, and then enter your login and password when prompted.

3- Connection Settings

Users of Pocket PC 568 go to Start > Settings, then select the Connections tab. Double click on the Connections icon. Make sure that the option "My network card connects to:" is set to "The Internet" and not Work, otherwise you will not be able to connect.

 

In the Mobility Laboratory: Connecting to the Mobility Wireless Network

The access point in the mobility lab has not been converted to PAL yet. To access it you must set the Network name or ESSID to "MOBILITY" in upper case.

Users of Pocket PC 568 go to Start > Settings, then select the Connections tab. Double click on the Connections icon. Make sure that the option "My network card connects to:" is set to "The Internet" and not Work, otherwise you will not be able to connect.
