Steel sculpture nearly finished.
|

This view shows more clearly texturing in the hair.
|

One of the photographs used for design. The top three layers (shoulder,
hair, and chin) are partly finished. The bottom layer (the profile) is
still ruff-cut and shows oxidizing colors from being cut with the
oxyacetylene torch. Notice in the rainbow of oxydizing colors on the
neck that one color is bluish and another is flesh-like. Those colors
are the ones used to finish the polished steel.
|

Note the four layers (profile, chin, hair, and shoulder) of one-eighth
inch sheet metal that comprise the sculpture.
|

This was an early attempt to color the sculpture. The hair is OK but
the skin was too copperish. Final coloring was performed using the
oxidizing colors created when polished steel is cooked in a kitchen
oven for 60 minutes. The hair was cooked at 525 degrees and the skin
was cooked at 410 degreesF.
