Installing Front Shocks

Installing the front shocks has turned out to be one of the easiest jobs so far. You do need to drill one hole in each frame rail on the bottom of the frame. The pictures show the swaybar in place but you may want to install the upper mount first and drill that lower hole.

The upper mount bolts to the existing mounting holes for the stock shock. The directions did have me a little confused about making sure the notch is at the rear of the mount. It seems the upper mounts may have been redesigned since the directions have been made. My mounts have a notch on both sides and an extra mounting hole for the shock. No mention of this in the directions. I'll guess this kit is used for 1935-1948 Fords with a taller shock on the later cars? Judging by the link of my provided shocks I need to use the lower mounting hole.

The lower mount is built into the spring shackle and the shock slide on. There was a pair of curved washers on the lower shock mount that look to go over the bushings in the lower part of the shock. It was then decided these are in place as a spacer. If I used them for what I thought they were for the shock would hit the shackle.

Again this was a real easy installation but I do wonder about that tall upper mount. I'll let you know if there are any problems when I install the front fender.
