NWI |
The National Wetlands Inventory (NWI) of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
produces information on the characteristics, extent, and status of the Nation's
wetlands and deepwater habitats.
|
National Atlas |
Work on a new National Atlas of the United States. began in 1997. This Atlas
updates a large bound collection of paper maps that was published in 1970.
Like its predecessor, this edition promotes greater national geographic
awareness. It delivers easy to use, map-like views of America's natural and
sociocultural landscapes. Unlike the previous Atlas, this version is largely digital. The new National Atlas includes
products and services designed to stimulate children and adults to visualize and understand complex relationships
between environments, places, and people. It contributes to our knowledge of the environmental, resource, demographic,
economic, social, political, and historical dimensions of American life.

Earth Explorer |
Earth Explorer is a search interface for USGS products, including DOQs,
DRGs, DLGs, DEMs and satellite imagery. It includes metadata and the
ability to order these products.
|
GIS Data Depot |
The GIS data depot provides access to free data and custom CD creation. The online
inventory includes more than 2 terabytes of geospatial data including over 46,000 USGS DRGs. Also DOQQ, DEM, NWI,
DTED, and DCW data.
|
Geography Network |
The Geography Network is a collection of data providers who make geographic data
available for viewing and download. This content is published from many sites around the world, providing access
to the latest maps, data, and related services. Sponsored by ESRI.
|
STATSGO |
State general soil maps made by generalizing the detailed soil survey data. The
level of mapping is designed to be used for broad planning and management uses covering state, regional, and multi-state
areas. |
SSURGO |
Field mapping methods using national standards are used to construct the soil
maps in the Soil Survey Geographic (SSURGO) database. Mapping scales generally range from 1:12,000 to 1:63,360;
SSURGO is the most detailed level of soil mapping done by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). SSURGO
digitizing duplicates the original soil survey maps. This level of mapping is designed for use by landowners, townships,
and county natural resource planning and management. The user should be knowledgeable of soils data and their characteristics.
|
EROS Landuse |
The Land Cover Characterization Program (LCCP) was started in 1995 to address
National and International requirements for land cover data that were becoming increasingly sophisticated and diverse.
|
ArcData |
ArcData Online is ESRI's Internet Mapping and Data Site. The ArcData Online site
contains a wide assortment of geographic information that users can access to create map images and download data.
|
NHD |
Intional Hydrography Dataset (NHD) is a comprehensive set of digital spatial data
that contains information about surface water features such as lakes, ponds, streams, rivers, springs and wells.
Within the NHD, surface water features are combined to form "reaches," which provide the framework for
linking water-related data to the NHD surface water drainage network. These linkages enable the analysis and display
of these water-related data in upstream and downstream order. The NHD is based upon the content of USGS Digital
Line Graph (DLG) hydrography data integrated with reach-related information from the EPA Reach File Version 3 (RF3).
The NHD supersedes DLG and RF3 by incorporating them, not by replacing them. Users of DLG or RF3 will find the
National Hydrography Dataset both familiar and greatly expanded and refined. While initially based on 1:100,000-scale
data, the NHD is designed to incorporate and encourage the development of higher resolution data required by many
users.

IN State Data Center |
Various GIS and census datasets for Indiana. |
IN GIS Task Force |
This website provides news for state government GIS users. In the documents section,
there is a .pdf file listing data layers with conatct people. |
GIS State Data Centers |
This site has links for GIS data sources in each state. |
Tippecanoe County GIS |
This page has data from the Tippecanoe County, IN GIS system. |
Terraserver |
Microsoft teraserver provides access to USGS DRGs and DOQs. The user can zoom
to an area of interest, then save the area as a .jpg. Then click on the "world file" link and save the
resulting text under the same name as the image with a .jpgw ending. This will allow the image to line up with
other GIS layers in arcview. |
USGS FTP |
To find each dataset, FTP to the main server, then cd to the directory contaning
the data of interest. |
