THE GRAND MINIATURE-BEAM COMPETITION OF 2009

Rules Update: Each team will be provided with 40ft of 16-gage steel wire.

 

Measured Material Properties

An approximate stress-strain curve for the 16-gage wire to be used

 

Prizes: +5 points in Final Exam to all members of the winning team in each category (plus glory and fame)

The total extra credit for the Final exam shall not exceed 8 points.

Observe that four longitudinal bars and ties to support them were provided outside the confined core - bars is the core are not visible because the core retained its integrity.   This column appears to have had a gross section with square shape and a circular core.
