In addition to performing the usual administrative jobs that go along
with participating in a large School such as Electrical and Computer Engineering,
I have done or am doing a large variety of other jobs associated with
the founding and the continuing functioning of the Department of Biomedical Engineering
at Purdue. For a relatively complete list of those that can be "isolated
and quantified", please see my cv. One of
the most interesting, but also unquantifiable, activities was to take a
leading role in developing a framework for the undergraduate program which
will begin in Fall 2004 with sophomores. This was tightly tied to
the succesful $5M Whitaker Foundation
Leadership Development award received by BME in December 2003 since the
Whitaker Foundation is fundamentally interested in education. A second
role which I would like to emphasize because students may read this page
is to act as liason between Indiana
University School of Medicine and Purdue
University (West Lafayette) for M.D.-Ph.D. degrees
including both recruiting and advising.
