Paper Discussion Assignment

Various Due Dates

Your assignment is to present two technical research papers to the class, lead a discussion on those papers, and participate in the discussions led by your classmates.

You should plan to spend about 15-20 minutes presenting the paper. For some papers, there are video clips available to illustrate the results. You can arrange for video clips, if available, by talking to one of the instructors. After your presentation, lead a discussion of the merits of the paper including such issues as:

  • How well does this technique work compared to other techniques for similar data?
  • What are the limitations of this technique?
  • How could this technique be improved?
  • Could this technique be applied to other applications?

Pick topics on which you would like to present papers and sign up for two slots on dates for your topics. Specific papers will be selected and distributed as the date for them nears. If you discover that you cannot lead the discussion on a date that you have chosen, it is your responsibility to find someone to swap with you.

Your grade for this assignment will reflect how you present your papers, how you lead the class discussion about your papers, and how to participate in discussions about other papers led by your classmates.
