Academic Honesty and Ethics

Cheating of any kind is unacceptable and may result in a grade of zero on the assignment, exam, or course--depending on the severity of the incident as determined by me. Discussions between students about assignments are encouraged, but showing your solution or program to another student is unacceptable. Examples of cheating include (but are not limited to):

  • Sharing results or other information during an examination.
  • Working on an exam before or after the official time allowed.
  • Requesting a re-grade of answers or work that has been altered.
  • Submitting homework that is not your own work.
  • Reading another student's homework solution before is it due.
  • Allowing someone else to read your homework solution before the assignment is due.

Cheating on an assignment or examination will result in a reduced score, a zero score, or a failing grade for the course - at my discretion depending on the severity of the incident as I judge it. All occurrences of academic dishonesty will be reported to the Assistant Dean of Students and copied to the ECE Assistant Head for Education. If there is any question as to whether a given action might be construed as cheating, see me before you engage in any such action.
