The purpose of the term project is to provide an opportunity for you to develop a solution to an environmental problem. Many of the problems that you have solved as homeworks (or will be solving as homeworks) have been simplified to allow you to find a solution in a relatively short time. The term project problem will provide an opportunity to solve an environmental problem without such simplifications.
You will first need to select an appropriate problem to solve. The problem could expand upon problems that we discuss and/or solve as part of the class or could be something that we have not or will not cover. The problem should be an environmental problem that a business (including a farm) or a landowner is facing or may face. Keep in mind that the term project represents a relatively large portion of your grade for this course. Therefore, the magnitude of the problem and your effort in solving it should reflect this.
Once you have selected a problem, develop a paragraph description of the problem and briefly indicate how you plan to develop an appropriate solution. This short description is due by Monday October 26. I will review these to make sure you can complete the project in a reasonable amount of time.
A project report will be due December 12. The report should include a description of the problem and an explanation of your solution with sufficient documentation so that others can understand your solution. You should also describe the benefits and disadvantages of your solution. The cost of your solution should also be documented and discussed to the extent possible.
