Using the Well Location and Condition software, evaluate the following scenario. Were there any problems identified? Provide the results and a brief interpretation of the results. You can capture the result screens or note the results in your brief writeup.
An old (65 years old) uncased, dug well is located near the center of a farmstead such that surface water drains away from the well (including water from potential contaminant sources). However, some contaminant sources are closer than permitted by state regulations; most regulations are met. Anti-backflow devices are used when appropriate. The water was tested recently as part of a Farm Bureau effort. The test indicated slightly elevated levels of nitrates in the water. The bedrock is approximately 35 feet beneath the soil surface. There is not a perched water table in the area due to the coarse nature of the soil to the depth of the bedrock. The well cap is cracked and should be replaced. The well has no vent. The water level is usually about 55 feet beneath the soil surface. There are no cross connections between water supply pipes. There are no other wells on the property.
Note: Make assumptions as required when completing the risk assessment.
