Research
in the Ultrafast Optics and
Optical Fiber Communications Laboratory focuses on the technology and
applications of ultrafast laser pulses on the femtosecond
time scale (1 femtosecond = 10-15
seconds). We are particularly active in developing and applying technologies for
manipulating and processing femtosecond lightwave
signals. Some of our current projects involve
·
femtosecond optical waveform
synthesis,
·
application of ultrashort pulse
technology to fiber optic communications,
·
space-time and parallel-serial processing of ultrafast
optical pulses,
·
ultrafast nonlinear optics,
·
radio-frequency photonics.
We are
also pursuing
·
novel methods of imaging within optically scattering media based
on laser speckle,
· terahertz spectroscopy.
