Cavitation in a High Aspect Ratio Slot

Experimental Comparisons with BEM Simulations

Mike Moses developed capabilities to provide high-resolution images of jets undergoing breakup processes for the purposes of calibrating analytic/numerical models. In addition, he developed a quantitative approach to determine droplet sizes directly from digitized data without human intervention thereby streamlining this process dramatically. The image shown below is compared with BEM calculation by Dr. Jim Hilbing. Note that the size and relative location of both main and satellite drops is recovered. In fact, ``recoil waves'' appearing on the parent surface due to the pinching event are also resolved in the calculation.
