The
critical challenge in the next century will continue to be sustainable food
production. As sustainability confronts economic, environmental, and social
implications, it must also involve more efficient and conscientious use of
our resources while productivity is improved. To meet the ever-increasing
demands for food and, simultaneously, preventing environmental degradation,
our role, as educators, is to focus on the conservation and protection of
natural resources, including water, land, and air, and to promote research
and support of biodiversity.
