The above photo shows some of the attendees of the MSPLS Fall 1996 workshop which was held on Saturday, October 5, 1996 at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. This was a bit north for MSPLS, so next time we'll be having the meeting in a more southerly location; the idea is to keep things circulating.
There were twelve presentations at this meeting, including an invited presentation by John Reppy of AT&T Research (shown above). Not only were various schools represented, but there were also a number of companies participating. It was a very full day; talks began at 10:45am and ended at 6:00pm. To accomodate the large number of presentations, each talk was limited to a 20 minute presentation followed by 5 minutes of questions. Talk titles, author lists, and abstracts are available online at Wisconsin's WWW site.
The $25 registration fee not only covered the workshop, but also covered donughts, lunch, and super at a local restaurant. Discussion of things MSPLS, and things not even close to MSPLS, continued through our Mexican super... which wound down around 9:00pm.
Yes, it was a long day, but everyone agreed that our University of Wisconsin at Madison hosts at did an excellent job making the workshop both a valuable exchange of technical ideas and a pretty nice way to spend a saturday....
